University Profile Barnes-Jewish College of Nursing and Allied Health at Washington University Medical Center is a College of Nursing located in St. Louis, Missouri. The College was founded in 1902 as Jewish Hospital School of Nursing; in 1992 it created its partnership with the Washington University School of Medicine, where all undergraduates take their Science requirements from the University College.
The College is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA), and offers a Bachelor's in Nursing and Doctorate in Nursing.
Barnes-Jewish College of Nursing was one of the first schools in the nation accredited by the National League of Nursing. By the early 1990s, the school had expanded to a college offering associate, bachelor, and master degrees in nursing and allied health programs.
In 2005, the Barnes College name returned to Barnes-Jewish Hospital as it merged the strengths and legacies of both hospital nursing programs into the Barnes-Jewish College of Nursing and Allied Health. At this point, the hospital observed that advances in technology and patient care were rapidly changing the nursing profession.
